yea you'd think the equity would be falling, because debt just converted to equity yesterday. "General Motors Corp. (GM) said Monday that it issued 16 million common shares in exchange for $176,417,800 principal amount of its 1.5% series D convertible senior debentures due 2009." I'm sure the gov loans will be in front of the unsecured senior etn's in a bankruptcy, still you're right the equity

why gm stock up, GM bonds still falling. Anybody got a clue. Yes, I know GM could default on interest payments, but no way would common get a dime before bonds are paid. I own BGM and the yield is about 25%. Crazy???

Yea... It was interesting that GM was up this morning before the bailout failure. There definitely wouldve been a rally if they signed the bill. If banks cannot extend credit to new auto buyers, GM will not generate enough cash and will probably burn through their existing credit facilities and $25 Billion loan very quickly if theres still no demand. Plus who knows how long it will take for GM

That could've been a short hedging the news and MM moving to next month, or some type of spread... Plus they haven't passed the financial intervention bill yet. Today somebody thinks the unsecured senior ETNs won't be paid off in BK. Im thinking $25 Gov loans put them further back in BK line. In my opinion. Thinking they dilute stock if loans won't help.Gm Exchange Traded Notes -9% today.

I remember the canadian energy trust story, it was a disaster. Looks like canadian dollar did correct directly with hard assets as the FXC showed, now with the US inflating dollars with all these bailouts I'd expect the dollar to decline vs. cad, my opinion of course.http://blogs.fxstreet.com/fxpath/2008/09/26/usdcad-update-ripe-for-a-move/

yea the lost decade is right. I looked at the 25 yr chart and it looks like the dow increased about 6x from 1990 - 2000 (2000 to 12000). Looking at a trend with the lows of 1994 and 2002 the line reaches to the low-mid 10,000s today. It's weird because the dow doubled and then tripled in 10 years following the 87 crash leading to the tech boom and it lost about 30% in the '02 recession, that's

Very interesting article. It's easy to forget how cheap & different things were only 8 years ago: gold @ 250/oz and oil @ 10bbl, a tech bubble in its last sprint, the housing bubble in its formative years. Now, here we are 8 years later and the DOW hasn't done a thing. It's been a lost decade.

Let me quote from Nolan Finley, Editorial Page Editor of the Detroit Free Press:Sunday July 20, 2008"DON'T LET DETROIT DIE WITHOUT A FIGHT" "Detroit is down with a fatal case of chaos. The structure of government has dissolved, with every public institution in dysfunction and disarray."With an arrogant, incompetent mayor who blames his personal failings on racism and a City Council that "on its
